If you want to point a domain name that you have to another domain or subdomain, one of the ways to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is directed to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be directed to the site that you have created, but it will also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the traffic from various subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this type of a record created for the main domain address renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting plan from our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it will take you only a few clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted inside your account from the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with every single plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, choosing the type, which will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the change. In case you have never added this sort of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will aid you with this task. If you have created a website through another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a few clicks within your CP.
